When it comes to diapering there doesn’t seem to be many zero waste options… until you start researching cloth diapers. Then there are about a million (or quite a few) options that pop up. No pressure of course, but there are a lot of different options! Especially if you are a little squeamish with the sight of poopoo and such there is even an option for you!
Cloth diapering seems like it's for the parents that have their schedules organized down to the second, but trust me if I can do it, you can do it too! I am the most messy, disorganized, procrastinating parent you will ever meet love buttons… and I did it! You can never deny that they look way more adorable than those itchy scratchy disposables too. After switching or starting with cloth diapers you will only be thanking yourself…. And as you should!
In this post you will find just a few ways that cloth diapering will actually make your life easier when you have little ones. It seems impossible when your life is constantly changing because of the ever growing children in your lives, but it is definitely within grasp for any parent out there that is willing to learn from this post!
Anyways, scroll to see the goods!
Never running to the store when you are out
This was MY most favorite perk from cloth diapering my boobop. Since I am always running late and never planning ahead this was by far the best learned experience. Whenever you open the diaper drawer or look into your diaper basket and see 2 diapers in there……. ITS TIME! I go to the toilet and spray those puppies down, throw them in the wash for a soak cycle, then a wash cycle and then toss those puppies into the dryer and they were done before my boobop had another blowout! Now….. I did say I was the kind to procrastinate and “risk it for the biscuit” so there were a whole 2 times that I did cut it close and i threw a swaddle blanket around him during nap time until the dryer beeps at me that it was finally done. Overall, even the best procrastinators or the most disorganized parents can look like pros with cloth diapers!
The leaks almost NEVER happen
There were little to no days that a blowout….. Well…. Blew out a diaper! The elastic on the sides of the diapers I used gently hugged my little ones chunky thighs perfectly to where he never had ANY leaks. Now, I did use an extra soaker pad on the inside at night because I was always freaked out about needing to always change sheets…… I am not into the laundries……. But of course I never had to wash the sheets very often at all….. Because there are no leaks!
Little to No Rashes
Depending on your wash routine, there is no rashing for the little one with cloth diapers. This is because of the, usually, cotton or bamboo fabric that is what touches the skin on the inside of the diaper. Stripping these once a month allows for the absorbance to stay intact and allows for the fabric to stay gentle and clean on the very delicate skin. For me, personally, my little boobop never got a rash when he wore his cloth diapers. But remember, this depends on your thoroughness with the cleaning process. My rule of thumb is that you always soak before and rinse rinse rinse after (if there is no soak cycle on your washer just soak them in a tub container with hot water, baking soda and a soap of your choice for about 30 minutes). When in doubt, rinse…. Because it gets off the extra soap layers that actually attract stains and make it difficult to strip once a month. If there are any questions about this process just reach out for any more tips or clarification!
Cuteness overload!
By far my favorite thing about cloth diapers are the patterns. I loved picking out all the different and diverse patterns that go from animals to shapes to colors brighter than the rainbow. Shopping around Etsy is my favorite of course because it supports small shops and they usually are the most creative with their fabric choices and their construction of the diaper itself. So get out there and pick something that just screams I want my little one to be the cutest one in daycare!
Give it a go!
