Eco-Friendly Transportation... Let’s Talk About It!

Hello my friends, and welcome back to the PNWN blog! I hope you all have been doing well and staying safe out there. This pandemic is taking way too long to work itself out if you ask me! Today we are going to be chatting about transportation that is eco-friendly and can help lower your carbon footprint. Public transportation, electric alternatives... We are gonna spill the tea on it all, so buckle up folks! Get it.... Buckle up... Like a seatbelt... And we are talking about transportation... Oh my goodness someone stop me!

Let’s start off by talking about public transportation and how amazing it is! Listen, I know sometimes taking public transit can be a bit time consuming depending on how far you need to go. Whether it be the bus or metro railways, both are easily accessible for the most part, and usually you can even get yearly passes to cut down the cost a bit if you use them frequently. Obviously, the cost varies from state to state but it is still worth looking into! By using public transit, that is one less car that is being driven that gives off carbon emissions! Yes, the bus does use gas that expels emissions but, 20 people riding in one bus is better than 20 people driving their own separate cars that produce carbon emissions, know what I mean? I suggest though, that if you have a metro railway in your area, I would definitely utilize that more. Not only are railways faster to get around, they use a light rail system which only uses electricity, therefore no emissions are produced at all! Even though I own my own cars, I definitely use the railway system we have in my area whenever I can, it’s seriously such an incredible way to get around!

Now if you want a way to get around without having to be around a bunch of people, or if you aren’t huge on public transportation then personal transportation is the way to go. I’m talking bicycles, scooters, electric scooters, mopeds etc. What’s great about bicycles/scooters is that more and more people are starting to use them for everyday travel! They are adding more bike lanes to roadways and are even making completely separate lanes from cars so that it’s safer for bikers to get around. Not all cities have progressed this far, but that doesn’t mean they won’t in the near future! Personal modes of transportation are pretty inexpensive, especially if you can find one at a thrift shop or an online marketplace. It’s not only a green way to get around but it’s also a great way to get some exercise! The electric options are a bit more expensive, but after the initial purchase, the electricity that you would be paying for afterward costs hardly anything at all, if not free... Which of course is the best number. Usually, the amount of money per kilowatt hour doesn’t exceed more than a dollar, but it varies by state. So, if you’re worried about how much you are spending to charge your device give it a quick google search and see!

My last major form of eco-friendly transportation is of course electric cars! Now I know you’re already worrying about the price, because you hear “car” and you instantly think about how they usually cost a fortune. Hear me out though guys, not all cars, especially electric cars, have to be the price of a Tesla okay? Even some basic model Tesla’s are becoming more affordable (if bougee is your cup of tea). You can easily go online and find used electric cars that are in great condition but also a reasonable price! I’m going to use myself as an example here: I recently was able to purchase my first electric car! I didn’t even have to break my bank to get it! I was looking on this site called cargurus.com, and I was able to find a 2012 Nissan Leaf with only 49,000 miles on it for $7,200! I love my Leaf so much; I’ve only had it for two months and I’ve already saved so much on gas! Electric cars are a great option these days because there are car charging ports being added everywhere. They are much more accessible than they were five years ago, and they have even made an app that you can download on your smartphone to find charging ports near your location! Although some electric cars, like mine, have low mileage (I get about 65 miles per charge) if you mostly stay around town they are the perfect choice. As time goes on, technology advances as we all know, and that just means that electric cars are becoming more durable and sustainable. They create zero emissions and their batteries are starting to be able to go much longer distances! Newer electric cars may be a bit pricier than a gas car right now, but they will get cheaper over time. Once you make the investment, that’s it, then your money just goes into charging as I’ve mentioned previously. Depending on how much charge your battery holds, it’s usually not more than $5 to completely charge your car. It’s something to seriously consider folks, if you’re a penny pincher like me, you’ll want to really look into this!

In the end, everyone’s circumstances in their lives are different. Everyone has their own routines and places they need to be, and we all pretty much take whatever way of transportation we can in order to do the things we need to do. Whether it’s public transit or your own car, it doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is the choices we can make around these forms of transit. It’s about being aware of the greener decisions and making the choices within our means. Not everyone can just buy a bike and start riding it everywhere they need to go, or try to buy a car. But if we can try to carpool when we can, or ride the railway if given the opportunity, or just walk to the places that you can, those are the small wins that will help us all come to a greener state of mind! It’s the effort that counts, and that is what will help ourselves, and others, create greener habits in our lives. Once you start taking in the process of becoming eco-friendly in as many aspects of your life as you can, it becomes so much easier over time. Transportation is a huge and vital part of our lives, and there are green choices we can make, so let’s all try to take the plunge together to show people it can be done!

Once again, thank you all so much for stopping by to read everyone, it means a lot that you’re willing to read what I have to say. Especially since I tend to drone on and on sometimes! Next time we will be talking about eco-friendly self care products that you should seriously think about putting in your cart. I'm getting so pumped just thinking about writing it! As always my friends stay safe out there, stay funky, stay fresh and PLEASE be kind to our Queen, Mother Earth.

Bye y'all!
